I took the plunge, bought myself a bike and started riding to work late last year in a desperate attempt to get some exercise into my week. It's a 15km ride and takes less than 40 minutes if I'm lucky on the traffic crossings in the city. Turns out I love it. It's quicker than public transport, only an extra 20 minutes over driving and doesn't make me feel particularly tired or exhausted.
I haven't lost a single kilo since starting. You can't win them all, I guess. I suppose I would have to eat a lot less to lose weight. But now I'm hungrier.
Things about riding:
Cyclists are mostly dudes.
Just like there are dangerous drivers, there are dangerous cyclists. They terrify me.
When I first started riding, everyone was overtaking me, all the time. I even got overtaken by a dude running with a backpack. It was uphill. I'm faster now. I actually overtake people!
I started writing this post yesterday, but now I've decided it's boring. So I will end it here. And write another post. About what I'm thinking about today.
