I think I'm going to start blogging again.

It's New Year's Eve and  I am sitting at work by myself. There are a few other people in the office but most have been forced to take holidays over the Christmas-New Year period. I am on a short term contract (renewed for the 3rd time now - YAY!) so I don't get paid holidays. Jason is at work and mum and dad are on school holidays and available to babysit (they're the best) so I might as well work my 3 days this week.

On Tuesday morning it turned out that our drinks fridge, which contains milk and booze, had not been on for many days and the milk had started fermenting and leaking out of the bottles. It probably would have exploded if left much longer. One of the payroll girls cleaned it up. This morning I tried plugging the fridge into a different power point and it worked, so it's just the power point behind the fridge that is fried. The dishwasher, half filled with dirty dishes, was stinky and it turned out the water is not draining out for some reason. Before Christmas the hot water unit was removed for repairs. Everything in that kitchen seems to be breaking down at once!  I have been hand washing all the dishes that are in the dishwasher, one or two mugs at a time, whenever I go to make a coffee. Mmmm exciting stuff, I know. You must be so glad I've started blogging again, if you are even reading this.

So this is what happened in 2015:

I worked 3 days a week all year. Yay for having a job! I love it. My initial contract was 6 months, they extended it another 6 months, and now it has been extended another 6 months, up to June next year. I am so grateful for that.

I bought a bike and started riding to work in November. It has been great. It's 15km, takes me about 45 minutes each way, I'm getting exercise and it's not much more commute time than driving and actually less than with public transport. I have not lost any weight since doing it. Oh well.

My kids. What to say?  I could go on and on and on about them so it's hard to summarize.

Olivia turned 3 but that was ages ago. We started toilet training when she was 2, but doing a poo in the loo was a real obstacle. We started getting really annoyed changing the pooey nappies but then I decided to give up and told her she could just start doing it when she was ready. At some point, I realised I had only had to deal with poos in her nappy once in a week and suddenly she was toilet trained. We still wear nappies for night time, just in case. I know that one day she won't even need nappies at night, which will be great but I'm not going to rush it. In her own time is fine.

This year I have realised that kids do start to do all the things they're "supposed" to do at some point in their lives, even without your intervention.  Sleeping through the night, using the toilet... there is no need to stress. Let babies be babies, suffer the sleep deprivation and the inconveniences, they will all end in time. You know what is insufferable? Being given advice about how to fix the "problem" of my kids not doing what other people think they should be doing. Especially from people who haven't even experienced it!

In December got her own room with her own bed. She still wants me to sleep with her and comes into our bed every morning at about 3am but she loves having her own room and bed. Her bed extends out to a double and has huge underbed drawers, it's great.

I don't think of George as a baby anymore. He is a toddler and what a daring, inventive little bruiser he is. He's a little champ at running, climbing and jumping and doesn't seem to have any fear. He hits his head one or more times per day without fail and is quite the little hitter. Head butting, throwing, whacking, smashing, he does it all. But he is so cute. He's quite tall now but still has his baby face and the most adorable smile you've ever seen. A real charmer.  And he loves to dance. Rocks out to all kinds of music.

This year has been pretty busy. Mainly hanging out with the kids and working. Because I work all the weekdays Jason is home we don't get a lot of time together and 2016 is probably going to be similar.

We'll soon see!

Your record for blogging is about like mine, twice a year. It's so non-motivational (is that a word?) with FB's instant gratification. I have a bunch to say on my blog, but I'm being lazy. Maybe I'll post something tomorrow. I look forward to more posts from you. The kids are so big. Don't worry about what other people tell you, there are no experts when it comes to parenting.

Ha! Great minds think alike! I logged into blogger, decided I was going to start writing and again, and what do I see but your new post - cheers to that!

We'll see if I keep it up, but I guess a twice a year update is better than nothing?

So true on kid stuff, I remember when Henry was toilet trained, we taught him everything we could, but then when he got it, it was just because it really clicked with him. You're right, the inconvenience is temporary, and there's no point in trying to rush them.

Yes, facebook has ruined blogging for everybody! But I'm definitely going to try to write more than 2 posts this year!

Excellent Maja, everyone has said what I wanted to say - keep it up - it does make a difference for us over here. Mum is always asking if you guys have blogged or whether there are any new photos. Mum enjoys the blogs and she gets so much more information from them. Maybe I will also be inspired and turn to the blog again.... I really like looking back at my blog as it reminds me of a heap of stuff that I forgot....

oh well. love and hugs to you all
