Now that Olivia has her own room, we have had to find other places to store a lot of the stuff that we were previously storing there.
This was Olivia's room before. |
Everything ended up here. |
I spent my three days off on the weekend trying to tidy the house and put stuff away. I also cleared out my wardrobe and got rid of 3 big bags of clothes and a big bag of shoes. I was sitting in the lounge with the kids, reading this list when another suggested article popped up (which I can't find anymore) referencing Marie Kondo's Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up book and the Capsule Wardrobe. I read the Life Changing Magic Of Tidying up last year and liked it but didn't have enough time or inclination to do it properly. This explains the Capsule Wardrobe concept pretty well.
I'm not quite there with the Capsule Wardrobe but it felt good to get rid of so much stuff. I had actually tried to go through my wardrobe using the Marie Kondo method but ended up keeping a lot of stuff I didn't love because I didn't really actually follow her method at all. I realised afterwards that I should have, so this time I got rid of all that stuff I should have got rid of before. Actually I have probably kept more than I should have, so I might do it again soon.
I've been reading this post on Wait But Why about Spacex. It's so interesting, but I haven't even finished it yet. It keeps bringing Ender's Game, and the rest of the books in the series to mind. Such good books.

I'm going to have to read the Tidying Up book. I just feel like if I get rid of it then I won't have to tidy it. I'm trying to scale down too. We had motivation when the move was in the plans, but now that those plans have fallen through, it's a struggle to keep clearing stuff out.
